Puerto Rico

This is the beach, the beach, the wonderful BEACH!

This is where we said, "Syd, we're really hungry.  Could you scamper up that tree and get us something to eat?"

And this is where we exclaimed, "A coconut!  Perfect." Her tree-climbing island skills finally came in handy!

This is the one where Syd's toes are encrusted with sea sand.  This picture reeks of laziness.  Isn't it delightful?!

This is the one where Mr. Horne is on his toes because he can only go out an inch per minute because the water is too chilly for him even in Puerto Rico.

This is where two sisters are in love with the cobblestone streets, the charming architectural details of San Juan, and being together.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

This is one where the girls said, Agghhh - don't take our picture, we aren't even cute today!  I ignored them because they're always cute to me.

This is the one where it was RAINING in the rain forest and I was bummed because I didn't dare get my camera out to take pictures of our adventures there.  Except that then I borrowed Madi's camera for this one quick photo.  I didn't take into account, however, the fact that the rain forest would be mostly covered up by a big hat and that the forest would be too misty to see very well.  You get the gist of it though right?

This is where Sydney TRIED to look like Ranger Ricki.  Really.  On purpose.  And there's no doubt about it, Madi is definitely a "tourist."  There's no hope.

This is where we had to negotiate with a cab driver to take us to this Mexican Restaurant.  He left us there telling us he would return but we had our doubts.  We thought we might be stranded in a Mexican restaurant in Puerto Rico forever.  But we weren't.  The food was good, the company great, and the driver showed up. On time.

This is the one where I went to take the picture and the flash opened up and knocked off my sun hat.  The laughter that you see is aimed directly at me, their nerdy wife/mother.

This is the one where Haley was saying under her breath, "Really?  More pictures?  Really?"  Note the lovely ocean that stretches out across the horizon.  Sigh.

This is the one where Madi says "Take a picture of me Mama!"  And I do, because how can a mother resist?

This is where we are all dressed up because we are going to a nice dinner at a restaurant in the hotel.  It is a Japanese Teppan-yaki restaurant.  It is also New Year's Eve but this is about as festive as we will get even though we are at a fabulous hotel on an exotic island with all manner of festivities at our fingertips. After dinner, we decide to go back to our hotel room and watch the last few episodes of the "Lost."    We are a barrel of fun.

This is where the girls talk about all the fun things we've done this week in Puerto Rico.  We went on a boat ride at night to see the bioluminescent dinoflagellates in a bay near our hotel, we went to a tubing water park, we visited Old San Juan and found fabulous deals at the COACH outlet there, we saw a giant lizard, we got drenched in the rain forest, we ate hot cream-filled churros, we played pool volleyball with the Italian mafia from "New Joisey" and a Jewish family from Long Island, we went to the beach, we chatted with the parrots in the hotel, we ate great Puerto Rican food and hung out by the pool.  And after they talked about all those fun things, they said "Thanks Mom & Dad!"  And so now we love them even more.
