A Perfect Day

Yesterday, black clouds boiled into the valley releasing torrents of rain and crashes of lightening.  For days now it has been the same.
But I stood my ground.  I remained positive.
It will not rain on my daughter's reception.
For months I have been stressing about the weather and then, all of a sudden, my worries disappeared.  A welcome sort of peace filled me instead.  Would it be strange to think that my dad,  wanting to be a part of his granddaughter's special day and wanting to help his most favorite daughter, got permission to be in charge of the weather directly over this house on July 8, 2011?  I believe so with all my heart.  So I watched as the rain pelted the white tent and the gazebo and the flowers and the pond and the grass where guests were going to wander happily and I smiled.

Today, the sun is shining.
I woke up to the shining.  I jumped up and ran to my daughter's room where I found her still sleeping.  Jumping on her bed, I reminded her that she was getting married this very day.  She rolled over with a dreamy smile and pretended she wanted to sleep longer.
It is a rare parent bonus day.  You know the ones........when your son earns his Eagle Scout award or when your daughter graduates from college or when your youngest child gets a summer job at a fruit stand all by herself.  Hence all the jumping.

Only this day takes the cake.

Maybe because I can't even count the number of times or ways that Mr. Horne and I or a primary teacher or a youth leader or a bishop or a grandparent has said to one of the children, "You gotta get married in the Temple."
(More or less.)
You always wonder if they got it.  If they listened.  If they understood why it is so important.

This one did.

What makes this day even more special is the fact that for a snippet of her life, she was a stinker bug.
Thankfully, one of the brilliant miracles of preparing for the temple is that stinkerness disappears.
And there she stands so lovely, so pure, so sweet next to her cute man.
Yes.  A parent bonus day indeed.

Presenting Mr. & Mrs. Griffith

Her brother led the way three years ago and was sealed to his sweetheart in the Washington, D.C. Temple. None of his siblings were in attendance.  Imagine my joy when not only Mr. Horne and I, but Sterling and Sarah as well, were able to be with Haley and Nate as they were sealed for eternity in the Draper, Utah Temple.  Lucky is the child that gets married last and has all her siblings there!

Feathery grey clouds lingered over the Temple providing enough shade to take pictures in comfort.  They sprinkled a few cool drops of rain as we were leaving the Temple and then vanished to make way for a perfect afternoon and evening.  You did it dad!
