Sometimes I think I can do anything.
It was at a moment such as this over a year ago when Sydney was distraught over the fact that her desk chair did not match her room in the least. "Syd," I said, "I can just sew a fabric slipcover for it." So excited, the cogs in her interior-design-oriented-brain started turning and she told me exactly what she wanted. "Toile fabric... and it needs to ruffle to the floor and can you make a big bow that ties at the back?" I must have assumed for a moment I was superman or supermom or something super because I said something like "not a problem!"
It took me three months to find the right toile fabric.
Six months of looking at the fabric and then at the chair and then at the fabric and then at the chair...
One month to get up my courage once I thought I knew how to tackle the project.
One month to lay the fabric over the chair, mark and cut and mark and cut and pin.
Two months to sew the thing together.
One month to hem it.
And one day to make the bow.
Today....
I finished it.
I can't wait for Syd to come home from school and walk up to her room where the chair was lovingly placed at her desk. I think she's long since given up hope that I would ever finish it.
Hey, maybe I can do anything...given enough time.
